A grom is great if you want to learn to ride, ride in the city only, and has great gas mileage. If your teens don't have a lot of money, this is the perfect thing. Also can't go any faster than a good 55MPH (perhaps 60MPH tops).

If you often need to ride 20+ minute rides, a Rebel is much better. The rebel does well on anything below the interstate. With some tuning, it can surpass 80MPH, but for 2 up riding, you're limited to 75MPH, which is on the slow lane on the interstate over here.

The CB300 series (includes CBR300R, and CB300F) goes a nice 100MPH tops when alone, and can easily get 80+MPH with 2 up. It's the minimum type of bike you'd get, when interstates come to play.

For anything more than regular 30 minute interstate rides, I would recommend a 500cc. The 500ccs run lower in Revs, aren't taxed to the max on the interstate, but also have a lower MPG.

I'd say, if you use the bike to go on trips of 100+ miles a trip, and at least 50 of those miles are on interstates, then a 500cc is the way to go!

The speed is something to worry about when dealing with young adults...
